An ongoing project for the last year Augmented Arts held its first exhibition in Maidstone this year with great success. The group also exhibited its work at the insideAR conference in Munich in October (Another big thanks for Metaio for such a wonderful opportunity. Munich (Cities in Marks) Augmented

A new experimental addition to the "Cities in Marks" series. Location drawings of Munich to showcase augmented reality as an illustrative medium. These were exhibited at insideAR 2013. Produced using the Creator software. And works with the Junaio app. Many thanks to Metaio for providing such a wonderful opportunity. Through this i've discovered an exiting new medium to work with.

Cities in Marks (The series so far)

Last Thursday an exhibition of my location drawing entitled "Cities in Marks" was held at Stepping Stone Studios in Maidstone. This was also a launch for the new Dublin set, A set of 8 cards done on location. So three cities now. Looking for somewhere new to draw. So we'll see what happens next.

Just to keep the blog updated i thought i'd upload some roughs from the latest project. It's a children's book. Spending some time writing the actual story. But these are some early concepts for the locals in the village the story is set. I'll be uploading more work from this project shortly.

Dublin Reportage

Three down many more to go. Dublin has finally been drawn as part of my series of city cards. Spent the week visiting various locations and sketching. Below is a preview, which includes Christ church Cathedral and the St James's Gate Brewery. Will be posting the finished and packaged set soon.

London Reportage

London Reportage

Spent the two weeks of the Olympics drawing in and around London, I guess this is intended to be a continuation from the New York reportage done in 2011. I'll be producing another set of cards from the drawings done. The above is a taster of what i produced. Two weeks, complimented by good weather and friendly people made it as good a time as any to draw in London. The only question is where to next? Any suggestions?

Tom Crean : Antarctic Survivor

This is the final bound book and slip cover for my final major project. I've also posted a selection of prints from the final book. All the images are monotypes. The story illustrates Tom Creans solo march to rescue his comrades from certain death. This has been a very enjoyable project not only for the the subject matter, but also in discovering a printing medium which i thoroughly enjoy. I'll be posting more work from this project soon. Please feel free to comment.

Terra Nova Centenary (Scotts Anniversary)

Did this quick sketch to commemorate the centenary of Captain Robert Falcon Scotts ill-fated attempt to reach the south pole. On this day in 1912 Scott, Bowers and Wilson are believed to have died. Scott entered in his diary

"We shall stick it out to the end but we are getting weaker of course and the end cannot be far. It seems a pity but i do not think i can write more."

He concluded by saying

"Last Entry. For Gods sake look after our people.

More from my project on Antarctic explorer Tom Crean. I've been experimenting with mono print for this project. This provides the potential for interesting marks and textures and while these are very early examples, i think they have the right atmosphere to them. More work to be posted soon.
